2022-01-17T10:01:13.564Z

Marine Le Pen is however considered by 50% of French people as a “danger to democracy”, according to the annual barometer of the RN of Kantar Public.

The strong rejection of one benefits the other.

The appearance of Éric Zemmour in the presidential campaign has had the effect of improving the image of Marine Le Pen.

Only 40% of French people now consider the candidate of the National Rally as being the “

representative of a nationalist and xenophobic extreme right

” (i.e. 9 points less than in February 2019), against 64% for Éric Zemmour.

This is revealed by the annual barometer of the image of the National Rally, produced by Kantar Public for Franceinfo and

Le Monde

, published this Monday, January 17.

Inspiring less rejection than her competitor, the RN candidate is also seen as more likely to gain access to the Élysée in April.

29% of those questioned consider it likely that Marine Le Pen will be elected President of the Republic, while only 10% currently believe in the victory of Éric Zemmour.

However, this improvement should be put into perspective, because half of those polled (50%) still believe that Marine Le Pen represents "

a danger to democracy

", compared to 64% for Éric Zemmour. By way of comparison, Emmanuel Macron is also considered by some to be dangerous for democracy, but only for 31% of French people, and Jean-Luc Mélenchon for 29%.

In addition, the measures presented by the RN candidate do not all arouse enthusiasm.

While 47% of French people believe that there are "

too many immigrants in France

", only 30% agree with his desire to abolish ius soli.

On the other hand, the proposal of the candidate to establish a "

presumption of self-defense

" for the police collects 53% of favorable opinions.
