Rainfall: Which region recorded the precipitation peaks in Israel? | Israel today

2022-01-17T17:00:39.945Z

The last rainy days have brought with them a fair amount of showers, especially in the coastal plain • Despite this, in parts of the country there is still a deficit in precipitation this season

A significant storm has hit our area in recent days and in some parts of the country there has been significant precipitation ranging from 100 to 150 millimeters of rain.

According to the Meteorological Service for Rain, which began on the 13th of the month until yesterday, the largest amounts that fell during the current storm, 130 to 180 mm, fell in the central and southern part of the coastal plain, from the Rehovot-Yavne area to the Ashkelon-Kiryat Gat area and west of the Jerusalem Mountains. In the lowlands, large quantities of 120 to 150 mm decreased, and in the north of the Gaza Strip about 120 mm. In the Gush Dan and Sharon area, and in the Hadera-Zichron Yaacov-Yokneam area, about 100 mm decreased.

In the northern coastal plain, in the Upper Galilee and in the northern Golan, 80 to 100 mm decreased and in the northern valleys, in the southern Golan and in the lower Galilee 40 to 60 mm.

The amounts of rain decreased in the south and reached 10 to 15 mm in the northern Negev and a few millimeters in the central Negev

Since the beginning of the winter season, there have been considerable differences between the different regions of the country in terms of the amount of precipitation.

In the coastal plain (south of Haifa) the amounts of rain exceed the average for the corresponding period considerably and in its central part even reach more than 150% of the average by mid-January and more than 90% of the average for the entire rainy season.

Some stations in the area even approach or reach the average for the entire season.

In the north of the country the quantities are close to the average for the corresponding period and in parts of the region it passes slightly, although there are parts such as the southern Golan, southern Kinneret and the Lower Galilee where there is a deficit and quantities from the beginning of the season reach 70% to 80%.

In the Judean mountains, which received heavy rain at the event, the large deficit that was before was reduced, so that the cumulative amounts are about 85% to 90% of the average.

In the northern Negev, the deficit is still large, 60% to 70% of the average.
