Tartous-Sana
The Directorate of Water Resources in Tartous started the work of isolating irrigation channels and rain drains in the Akkar Plain, where drainage problems may occur as a result of heavy rainfall, in order to protect the neighboring agricultural lands from the danger of floods.
The Director of Water Resources in Tartous, Engineer Muhammad Mahrez, told SANA reporter that the directorate’s cadres annually inventory the areas that may be exposed to the risk of flooding in the Akkar Plain and include them in the annual isolation plan in cooperation with the rest of the public sector companies.
Mehrez explained that the length of the government sewage networks in the Akkar Plain exceeds 900 km from main and secondary drains, in addition to about 25 km drains for some rivers in the region, such as Abu Al-Ward, Al-Abrash and Al-Arous. Drainage problems and thus damage to the neighboring agricultural lands.
Mehrez confirmed that the directorate has isolated all the entrances and exits of the necessary ferries within the governmental drainage networks, especially next to central roads and within the organization areas of some municipalities to prevent their blockage during heavy rains, noting that the directorate is responding to citizens' requests to isolate winter drains throughout the governorate.
