A sign prank by citizens caused a stir in Au: an unknown person hung up the town sign of the neighboring community.

What was going on in Au?
At the entrance to the town (coming from Nandlstadt) someone apparently pranked the townspeople on Sunday evening - and exchanged the Auer town sign for one from the neighboring community.
The town sign from Nandlstadt was attached at the entrance to Au with cable ties - "our sign was nearby in a meadow," reported Tahnee Mills from the Au regulatory office when asked about it by FT.
Mills does not know what this action is all about.
And Nandlstadt's mayor Gerhard Betz can't explain why either.
But he took the action with humor: "They all want to come to us," he said with a wink.
And further: "I see the whole thing as symbolic of the fact that Au and Nandlstadt - and also Rudelzhausen - work so well together."

The "Schild-Bürger-Prank" brought back memories for Gerhard Betz: In June last year, the small town of Weihersdorf, which is actually in the municipality of Nandlstadt, was relocated to the municipality of Attenkirchen without further ado - at least that's what it said for a short time on the town sign (we have reported).
What sounded like a prank at the time was, however, a mistake that the district office made when ordering new place-name signs.
Betz and his mayor colleague Mathias Kern from Attenkirchen took it with humor at the time.
Both sides were relaxed yesterday: the signs were replaced by the Au building yard early in the morning and the Nandlstadt sign was taken to the neighboring community.
"That was the end of it," Mills said.
