It is an eye-catcher for everyone who comes through the Bahnhofstrasse these days - the normally unadorned railings on the village pond shine in bright colors.

Volunteer fans of handicrafts have wrapped it in meter-long knitted and crocheted pieces of wool.

Türkenfeld - This type of beautification of public space is known above all as tree scarves or bollard caps from big cities.

Agnes Maria Forsthofer, chairwoman of the Kulturvertrickungen association, brought the idea to Türkenfeld.

For many hours she let the knitting and crochet needles clatter together with other enthusiastic needleworkers.

Even the 12-year-old grandson of one of the participants took part.

In this way, around 50 individual parts were made from wool scraps, which together resulted in almost 90 meters of casing for the street-side pond railing.

The vertical posts are decorated with knitted animals.

Cheering up in the dreary season

It took two days to attach and sew up and was no fun in the freezing cold.

But the effort was worth it: the fact that a colorful accent in the village center brightens up the dreary season a bit is very popular.

"Everyone who drives past it gets a smile," observed Forsthofer.

She is very happy about that, as well as the many positive comments she has already heard - and the fact that the campaign has already attracted the first needleworkers: A child from one of the residential buildings on the banks of the pond observed the attaching and sewing together of the wool parts and came to help out.

Now the fourth grader wants to learn finger knitting from Agnes Maria Forsthofer. The chairman of the association reports: “I promised her that we would then also wrap the side railing together. She can see that from her nursery window.”

Then the next activity will continue: When the first insects fly around in spring, crocheted bees will dangle from the trees by the pond. Agnes Forsthofer is already looking for volunteers who would like to come to the “Kreativ-Platzl” club meeting point on Bahnhofstrasse to do handicrafts together.
