The state government has extended the current corona rules until the end of January.

If it is easier to predict how the omicron variant will spread in Saxony-Anhalt, new measures could be taken.

Magdeburg – In Saxony-Anhalt, there will still be no additional testing obligation in the catering trade for the vaccinated and those who have recovered. The cabinet agreed on this in a special video session on Monday. The current rules for containing the corona pandemic will be extended until January 28, as a government spokesman for the German Press Agency confirmed after the switch. "We will not have an incidence-independent 2G-Plus regulation," he said.

The state government hopes that a “more valid database” will be available next week. Among other things, it should be evaluated how much the spread of the corona variant Omicron affects the number of hospital admissions in Saxony-Anhalt. It would be conceivable that the black-red-yellow government would then agree on an incidence-dependent 2G Plus model in connection with the hospitalization rate.

After the prime ministers' conference next Monday, the cabinet wants to discuss necessary containment measures in Saxony-Anhalt again on January 25.

Until then, there will remain a 2G regulation in the catering industry: only those who have recovered and those who have been vaccinated are allowed in restaurants, but they do not have to show an additional quick test.

At the beginning of January, the federal and state governments had actually agreed on the nationwide implementation of a 2G plus rule for the catering trade.

On Monday evening it was expected that thousands of people would gather again in Saxony-Anhalt for unannounced meetings and so-called walks. Several civil society alliances had invited to a rally for democracy, diversity and solidarity in the corona pandemic in Magdeburg. Opponents of the Corona policy called for protests via social networks and messenger services.

The number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week rose slightly on Monday.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported a seven-day incidence of 280.4 in Saxony-Anhalt - after 274.8 on Sunday.

The city of Halle currently has the highest values at 387.2, followed by the state capital Magdeburg (376.2).

The districts of Wittenberg (186.0) and Mansfeld-Südharz (193.0) currently have the lowest seven-day incidence in the state.

Nationwide, the incidence peaked at 528.2.
