(CNN) --

Two tornadoes hit Southwest Florida on Sunday morning, destroying at least 28 homes and damaging others in Lee County while leaving about 7,000 homes there without power, authorities said.

The tornadoes were spawned by the same storm system that brought freezing rain and snow to other parts of the East Coast, where more than 50 million people were under winter weather warnings Monday morning.

As of early Monday morning, the storm system had left more than 180,000 customers without power in its wake, according to PowerOutage.us.

At a news conference Sunday, Cecil Pendergrass, co-chairman of the Lee County board of commissioners, said at least 62 homes were currently "uninhabitable."

The tornado was an EF2 with top winds of 118 mph (190 kph).

It may have completely destroyed 30 of the 108 damaged mobile homes near Fort Myers, according to a damage survey by the National Weather Service.

Four injuries were reported, but no one was taken to a hospital, authorities said.

In Charlotte County, north of Fort Myers, an EF1 tornado with winds of 110 mph (177 kph) left behind a path of destruction, according to the weather service.

"A waterspout moved across the Gasparilla Sound near the Boca Grande Causeway before it later moved ashore as a short-lived tornado near Placida damaging at least 35 homes and a marina storage facility." the NWS said in a bulletin.

No one was injured, but some residents were displaced, the Charlotte County government said in a tweet.

The storm system also caused flight cancellations in the thousands.

On Sunday, airlines canceled 3,058 flights across the country, and more than 1,200 more flights had been canceled as of 6:45 a.m. Monday.

CNN's Gene Norman contributed to this report.
