Today we will answer some questions that we have been asked on our Twitter account @DrHuerta.

Questions about covid-19 and the omicron variant

@drhuerta good evening Dr.Huerta, does an infected with the omicron variant later generate natural immunity?

How many days ?

Previously, you and other professionals spoke of 90 days.

Greetings

– CESAR RIOS (@Neocriosc) January 13, 2022

advertising

Hello Cesar, of course, an omicron infection generates immunity, just like any of the previous variants.

Because at the time of writing this episode it has only been less than eight weeks since that variant was discovered, it is not yet known how long immunity from the natural disease lasts.

@drhuerta Good afternoon, I have symptoms plus loss of smell and taste for 3 days, I am taking paracetamol and diporone, how many days should I continue with the medication?

And the loss of taste will be permanent ?? Thank you

– José Delgado (@JoseDandrea73) January 12, 2022

Hello José, in general, the symptoms of covid-19 last three to four days, during which time you can take the symptomatic medications.

In relation to regaining taste, remember that omicron infection does not usually cause it, and if it does, it is short-lived.

Question about the detection of the coronavirus

2 days before, I had claws and tried to cough up and on the recommendation of the doctor who treated my brother, I started gargling with bicarbonate mixed with infusion, I am worried about not knowing what I really have, in my area there are no tests available today.

— fiore izumi (@IzumiFiore) January 15, 2022

Good question, Flor.

While it is true that tests can confirm a diagnosis, they are not absolutely necessary.

In other words, the doctor can make the diagnosis of covid-19 based on the contact check and the clinical picture.

It is advisable to isolate yourself and wear masks immediately if you suspect the diagnosis and to alert friends and family that you are likely to have the infection.

@drhuerta, can a person who has suffered from covid, having applied the entire vaccine and reinforcement schedule, become asymptomatic from SARS-CoV-2?

– Gabriel Castillo Garces (@_Gsiete) January 12, 2022

Excellent question, Gabriel, of course, a vaccinated person with a booster can have covid-19, which can be asymptomatic, mild or moderate.

Some people with a very diminished defense system (very old, cancer patients or other chronic processes) may have a more severe disease.

Doubts about contagion

@drhuerta .good afternoon one more question please.

What would be the conduct for a person who was infected with Sars cov 2, He overcame symptoms that were mild, in a week.

Nasal antigen test was done and it's positive again.

Will you have to remain isolated?

– davilesar@gmail.com (@davilesar) January 15, 2022

Hi David, good question.

Of course, if on the seventh day the antigen test is positive, that indicates that the person is still contagious and must complete their isolation for at least 10 days.

Consult, if 10 days of isolation have already passed and I take a molecular test, could I continue to come out positive?

– Mayonnaise 🐱 (@unagatolica) January 14, 2022

Hello, Mayonnaise, of course.

Due to the high sensitivity of the PCR or molecular test, it is able to recognize non-infectious virus particles that may still be shed for several weeks after infection.

Obviously, those viral particles detected by the test are not contagious.

@drhuerta hello!

Consuta gave me the third dose and a week later I had COVID, what about the antibodies?

decrease?

Should I give myself a dose at 90 days for prevention?

Thanks!

— Monica Lamas (@MonicaPLamas) January 13, 2022

Hi Monica, great question.

The infection you had does not change the stimulation of the immune system that the vaccine causes.

That is, both processes are independent and you are protected.

I don't think you should get a fourth dose of vaccine.

@drhuerta good afternoon.

To define the recovery of a patient who has suffered mild covid, is it necessary to perform nasal antigen?, PCR test, or antibody determination?.

Would you recommend any?

And at what time from the positive diagnostic test.

Thank you so much!

– davilesar@gmail.com (@davilesar) January 15, 2022

Hello, Davi, in general —unless it is for administrative reasons— it is not recommended to undergo any type of test to be discharged.

A doctor can give what is called a clinical discharge on day 14 of the infection, without the need to do any tests.

@drhuerta Hello dear, my mother and I have COVID and we always drink coffee.

Should I stop or reduce it?

Thank you.

– Salvadoran (@Aaarita3) January 12, 2022

Hello, Salvadoran, it is not necessary for a person with covid-19 to suspend coffee.

Unless there are any digestive symptoms that prevent you from drinking that drink, you can continue using it.

Questions about the different vaccines against covid-19

@drhuerta Is it necessary to wait to be cured of influenza or any flu to apply any of the doses of the vaccine against Covid-19?

Thank you for your podcast, your contribution is an oasis in the midst of this pandemic.

– J. Ernesto Fernández (@ErnoFernandez) January 13, 2022

Thank you very much for your greeting and for listening to the podcast, Ernesto.

In general, it is recommended that a person be vaccinated when completely free of flu symptoms or other respiratory problems.

This is because it is not convenient that the symptoms of the respiratory process are added to the possible secondary effects of the vaccine.

I want to reiterate that the vaccine is not going to aggravate the flu or cold.

@drhuerta is it safe to breastfeed a baby after the mother receives the coronavirus vaccine?

Will the baby receive the vaccine antibodies from his mother?

— LIC.

AMIR (@LicAmir) January 12, 2022

Hi Amir, the US CDC recommends that lactating women receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

And yes, it has been proven that some antibodies can be identified in breast milk.

Dear Dr. Huerta, in relation to COVID in children, what is known about the safety of vaccines in children 5-11 years old?

My daughter is 5 and could be vaccinated this week in Germany with BionTech-Pfizer.

Is there any significant risk?

Thanks in advance and the best for you in 2022.

– Renzo Giudice (@renzogiudice) January 12, 2022

Hello, Renzo, according to a study published on January 6 in

The New England Journal of Medicine

, the administration of the vaccine in 1,517 children aged 5 to 11 years did not produce significant side effects, so they conclude that the safety profile of the vaccine—just like that of adolescents and adults—is good.

Questions about booster doses

I have a question.

I was taking antibiotics until 2 days ago, from now on can I receive my booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine normally or do I have to wait for a certain number of days to pass?

– Gianina Hinojosa (@GianinaHinojosa) January 15, 2022

Hello, Gianina, of course, people should not stop taking their medicines to get vaccinated against covid-19.

@drhuerta Hello Dr.

I was vaccinated with Cansino in May 2021, with Pfizer in August (1 dose), which booster do you recommend?

Modern or Astra-Zeneca?

(these are the vaccines that I have the possibility of getting)

Thank you very much in advance.

– Pablo Reyna (@PabloReyna) January 14, 2022

Hello Pablo, in general it is preferred to use messenger RNA vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna) as booster shots.

@drhuerta good evening, here is my query: I got vaccinated with Sinovac 2 doses and change the country and there I got vaccinated with Pfizer another 2 doses and they are about to call me to get the booster, do you think I should get it?

– Raul Garcia (@RaulGar9999) January 14, 2022

Hello, Raúl, in reality, it is no longer necessary for you to receive any more vaccinations.

Sinovac is a two dose vaccine and then you got two more from Pfizer.

So that's four doses you've received and I don't think you should get a fifth.

@drhuerta good evening, could you help me with a case? My wife is pregnant and because she is a teacher she only has one dose of the Cansino vaccine. can you vaccinate?

– AlanJPiña (@alanjpina) January 13, 2022

Hi, Alan, knowing that the vaccine is an elective medication, not an emergency, I think it would be advisable to wait a few days and rule out that your wife has been infected.

Once this is done, you should be vaccinated immediately, remember that the pregnant woman belongs to the group at risk of complications.

Doctor, if I tested positive for COVID after the two doses, after how long can I apply the booster if I was positive for COVID?

– spinal raul (@raul_raes) January 12, 2022

Hi Raúl, the US CDC recommends receiving your booster dose immediately after you have recovered from the infection, although remember that the natural infection can protect you for at least three months, so you have that much time to do so.
