At the end of last year, we were all hoping that the worst was behind us regarding COVID-19 and that everything would soon be back to normal.
Unfortunately, the Omicron variant decided otherwise.
In the past, no virus had spread so quickly.
Although studies tend to suggest that cases of Omicron are less severe, especially in vaccinated people, countries around the world are experiencing the highest case rates of the entire pandemic, and many healthcare systems are at risk to be overwhelmed again.

Despite these challenges, we remain optimistic that this pandemic may end in 2022. Global collaboration on innovations that can benefit everyone is the key to defeating COVID-19 and preventing the onset of a future pandemic.
