While there is no doubt about Emmanuel Macron's desire to run for a second term, remember that this was already the case for four presidents (Giscard, Mitterrand, Chirac and Sarkozy).
Pompidou died short of term and Hollande gave up representing himself.
De Gaulle sought (and obtained) a second mandate in 1965, but had not been elected by universal suffrage in 1958.
