For more than a century, Algeria has been French.

But we are in June 1940, and France is now half German.

The repercussions are soon felt on the other side of the Mediterranean.

Stéphane Benhamou's documentary,

Algeria under Vichy

tries to show it, the anti-Jewish Vichy measures applied will be even more severe than in France.

Less fatal, because there was no deportation, but more severe.

This beautifully crafted film is partly based on Jacques Attali's book

L'Année des dupes.
