The American newspaper (The Hill) saw that the level of violent rhetoric in the United States is increasing at an accelerating pace, noting that the threats targeting American lawmakers are no longer limited to individuals or groups of the public, but rather come from the corridors of Congress itself.

The newspaper pointed out that the violent rhetoric is issued in some cases from within Congress and from lawmakers themselves, such as Representative Paul Gosar, who published late last year an animated video in which he appeared to kill Democratic Representative Alexandria Cortez.

And Gosar is not the only one. Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Green proposed last week to use the rights of the Second Amendment to the US Constitution to defend Republicans against Democrats, adding this statement to her previous positions, which were described as "biased and violent", as she was a supporter of former US President Donald Trump's allegations of fraud. The 2020 presidential election has been linked to the Que Anon movement, which promotes conspiracy theories linked to the far right, and has questioned the effectiveness of anti-Coronavirus vaccines.

The newspaper pointed out that more than a year after the events of the storming of the US Capitol, the threats targeting members of Congress are increasing in light of an increase in the level of violent rhetoric circulating on the Internet, and it has reached unprecedented rates of 9,600, according to data from the Capitol Police, exceeding the numbers for the year 2020. .

According to the newspaper, these dangers were embodied last Thursday when the Capitol police arrested a Michigan woman who had appeared outside the Congress headquarters with several weapons and was trying to talk about the events of the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Recently, calls for violent action against US lawmakers have also escalated on the Internet, including a video calling for legislators to be hanged in front of the White House, and this video has been viewed more than 60,000 times.

With the increasing warnings and fears of the growth of domestic terrorism in the United States and the rise of the extreme right, Assistant US Attorney Matthew Olsen acknowledged that the threat posed by local extremists who seek to commit criminal acts within the US territory is increasing, noting that the motivation behind them is often racial or ideological.

The US Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mallorcas, described the threat of domestic violent extremism as “serious,” noting that the current threat environment has not diminished since the attempted storming of Congress on January 6, but it has remained stable if not increased.
