His presidency of the Union, which began on January 1, will end in practice in mid-March, with the opening of the official presidential campaign, ie barely three useful months.
This is little.
Especially since the program displayed is indeed very generous: economic recovery and industrial investment, energy, digital, health, defence, reform of the Schengen area, carbon tax at the borders of the Union...
This claimed ambition also represents an attempt to derive electoral benefit from an overhanging international status offered by the calendar of European institutions.
But, apart from the fact that the concrete results will probably not match such ambitions - the French Presidency does not decide alone and it will have to be able to involve the 26 other Member States - I do not think that the French will attach overemphasis...
