Türkheim – In the event of a medical emergency, regardless of whether it is a traffic accident or a physical disability, the clock always starts ticking immediately. If help arrives within the first ten to 15 minutes, the chances of people surviving the emergency without permanent damage increase. In order to bridge the time until the medical professionals arrive, there are "on-site helpers" or first responders in more and more places. Since this year there has also been a First Responder vehicle in the Türkheim store, which has been able to prove its usefulness several times within just a few days. Therefore imitators are welcome for the project.

The topic of First Responders had been discussed in the market town council for a long time, but things got serious about a year ago: In April, the initiators, mainly from the Türkheim volunteer fire department led by Daniel Lesti, presented their plans for a vehicle with a crew that could be used in the area the VG, between Rammingen, Wiedergeltingen, Amberg and on the A96 is to be used. At the beginning of January, the BMW off-road vehicle went into service on the market and by the time it was officially put into service, the crew had been able to demonstrate more than half a dozen times how important the new first-aid vehicle is.

In the second week of January, the time had come: Mayor Christian Kähler welcomed the "New Year's Baby" at the fire station in Türkheim together with District Administrator Alex Eder and his Günzburg colleague Hans Reichhart, representatives of the fire brigade and rescue service and the main sponsor.

The First Responder has been officially registered in the Integrated Rescue Control Center (ILS) Donau-Iller since January 1st, where the emergency calls from the districts of Günzburg, Neu-Ulm and Unterallgäu as well as from the city of Memmingen are made and from there the emergency services are also alerted and conducts.

The first responders had to be deployed seven times in just a few days with the vehicle operated jointly by the Red Cross and the fire brigade.

One of the last missions was a bicycle accident.

Faster on site

During his speech, Mayor Kähler emphasized the time advantage of the First Responder. In times when more and more savings are being made in the health care system, the locations with ambulances and emergency doctor vehicles are fewer and not necessarily manned around the clock. In addition, there are also parallel operations, so that in Türkheim it was not always clear which rescue service would react and from which station the ambulance would come, says Kähler; Türkheim lies at the intersection of the Kaufbeuren, Bad Wörishofen, Mindelheim and Buchloe guard stations, and an ambulance can even approach from Schwabmünchen. Fast on-site help is all the more important, whereby the first responder not only benefits from the time advantage, but also from the local knowledge of the helpers on site; this is especially usefulwhen the rescue helicopter is requested from Kempten, Murnau or Ulm. The helicopter can then also be instructed accordingly via radio.

First responders are first responders with professional equipment such as defibrillators, ventilators and other medical equipment that can be used without a doctor.

The administration of medication, especially painkillers, is reserved for the medical staff, which is why not only the RTW, but also the emergency doctor is alerted with every operation.

Especially in the case of a heart attack or stroke, every minute that the brain is without an oxygen supply counts. The sooner the patient is properly ventilated, the less damage will be done. For this purpose, the most modern equipment is loaded into the BMW off-road vehicle, including a defibrillator and a rescue backpack according to Bavarian standards. The BMW itself is an "old hand" and was already doing its job in Baden-Württemberg. The fire brigade was able to take over part of the interior fittings, only the special signaling system (blue light) and the digital radio were renewed. The compartment from which the emergency doctor in "the Länd" pulled the emergency case will remain empty in future, the backpack is attached on top.

The responder vehicle is always in use on weekends and public holidays, and there are now a good 30 first responders available, some of whom are comrades from the Irsingen and Türkheim fire brigades, as well as private individuals who have responded to a call. Just like Timo Löffler and his partner Senta violence, who both work in the hospital and have the appropriate medical knowledge. Those on duty have the opportunity to spend their time in the guard room in the fire station or take the responder vehicle home with them, as Löffler and violence will do. To do this, the two had to go through a special briefing, as emergency vehicles have special privileges on the road. Driving the large SUV also needs to be mastered, as well as operating the digital BOS radio, which is reserved for the authorities.

Finsterwalder sponsors the purchase

The First Responder was financed, among other things, by a large donation from the Türkheim-based company Finsterwalder, which virtually took over the entire purchase and the film covering of the vehicle (over 12,000 euros).

Kähler thanked Markus Freudenmann from Finsterwalder for this.

The market community had to pay about the same amount for the expansion and conversion and the equipment.

The operation of the rescue vehicle is to be financed by donations.

There are currently only two other first responders in the area of the Donau-Iller rescue control center in Krumbach, in Bad Grönenbach and Neu Ulm.

More first responders are urgently needed for nationwide first aid.
