Indonesia's parliament has passed a bill to move the country's capital from Jakarta to Kalimantan on the island of Borneo.
Reuters reported that House Speaker Puan Maharani announced today the passage of the law, which provides a legal framework for President Joko Widodo's ambitious proposal, which stipulates how to finance the development and management of the new capital.
The Indonesian president had announced these plans in 2019 and indicated that the new site was chosen first because it is not very vulnerable to natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions, as well as because of its strategic location in central Indonesia.
