Today, the Iraqi Ministry of Health announced that the Omicron mutated from the Corona virus had reached the peak of the outbreak in the country, noting that record levels of infections had been recorded.
The official Iraqi newspaper, Al-Sabah, quoted the Director of Health Promotion in the Ministry, Dr. Haitham Al-Obaidi, as saying, "Omicron entered the peak stage of spread, and what distinguishes it from previous strains is the speed of its spread."
Al-Obaidi explained that the Omicron strain is very worrying because of the high number of infections in a short time, and this will cause pressures on resources, whether medicines, beds, hospitals and health staff.
Yesterday, Iraq recorded a new rise in the number of daily infections with the Corona virus, which reached 4,466 cases.
The world is witnessing record increases in Corona virus infections in light of the spread of the new Omicron strain, because its incubation period is less than a week due to the rapid onset of symptoms and the short period of infection spread.
