The new Hausham level crossing also ensures red traffic lights on the B307.

A new traffic jam for excursion traffic, motorists suspect.

The mayor sees it differently.

Hausham

– Drivers actually see red often enough on the B307.

And usually longer than they would like.

With the commissioning of the new Hausham level crossing, another traffic light has been added.

While the red phases on Industriestraße used to be limited because they were only triggered by pedestrians pressing a button, they now stop through traffic every few minutes.

As reported, this is the only way that all traffic can be handled in a round trip via the single-track track crossing.

The consequences became apparent on the last excursion weekend, when endlessly long queues of cars crawled along the industrial road - including regular standstills.

Reader wants to keep barriers closed at the weekend

It was "simply crazy", writes a reader of our newspaper, to stop through traffic so often because of the alleged "miracle railway crossing".

Rather, the barriers should only be opened to a limited extent on weekends or even kept completely closed.

That's not an option for Mayor Jens Zangenfeind.

"The new level crossing works smoothly in everyday life," he emphasizes.

Especially inner-city traffic would benefit greatly from the shorter closing times of the barriers.

“That has always been our priority, and it will remain so,” the mayor makes clear.

It would also not be fair at all to put the Haushamer in a worse position because of extreme situations for a few hours a week.

The fact is that the jam chaos does not arise at the new level crossing, but in situations like the past weekends from the autobahn deep into the Schlierach/Leitzachtal.

"The whole route is riddled with bottlenecks," says Zangenfeind.

No traffic regulation in the world can withstand this high peak load.

New traffic light at level crossing: Mayor with a clear appeal

In fact, the traffic light switch has three programs.

The current one is set in such a way that the crossing traffic can quickly cross the tracks.

Another would favor the industrial road with longer green phases.

Zangenfeind does not rule out a change, but currently the situation would be observed until spring.

"I would ask everyone to give the new level crossing some time until everything has settled down," appealed the mayor.

In addition, every motorist can make sure to drive all the way to the stop lines.

"Otherwise the traffic light might not switch."

Ferdinand Klettner, site manager from the Infra engineering office, confirms that the lanes are equipped with induction loops for traffic-dependent, intelligent light signal switching.

Because many cars drove up to the level crossing from Schlierseer Straße at the weekend, this direction of travel repeatedly needed green for longer.

Since there are both left and right turns onto Industriestraße, you just have to give a red signal over there.

The traffic jam itself had nothing to do with it, emphasizes Klettner.

He himself drove the route around 4 p.m. on Sunday to get an idea.

His impression: "If the cars hadn't been at the level crossing, then they would have been a few hundred meters further in front of or behind."

Or, as the mayor recalls, during the long closing times of the old level crossing.

With the barrier closed, the turning lanes on Industriestraße were closed in no time.

The result: standstill on the B307 – enough reason to see red even without a red signal.
