Amnesty International sees Italy's Corona course as discrimination against unvaccinated people.

For example, they are no longer allowed to use public transport.

Rome – Italy is facing headwind for its Corona course: the human rights organization Amnesty International is calling on the government to end disproportionate discrimination against the unvaccinated.

This is reported by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ).

At the turn of the year, the government around Prime Minister Mario Draghi introduced compulsory vaccination for all people over the age of 50 and adopted tough rules for the unvaccinated.

For example, they are no longer allowed to use public transport until July 15th and thus cannot come to work if they do not have their own means of transport.

The only exception: you have just recovered.

Anyone over 50 years old and not vaccinated against Corona* is also no longer allowed to go to their workplace.

Corona in Italy: Amnesty International criticizes "discrimination"

A vaccination requirement and restrictions must always remain “proportionate”, according to a statement by Amnesty, which is available to the FAZ.

The human rights organization calls on the Italian government to "ensure that the entire population can exercise their fundamental rights".

This includes the right to education and work.

Amnesty International said the unvaccinated should have the right to participate in work and social life “without discrimination”.

Wearing a mask and corona tests are alternative measures.

Many people's displeasure also seems to be growing, as the increasing number of demonstrators shows.

About 5,000 people took part in a protest rally in Rome near the Colosseum on Saturday.

Demonstrations also took place in other cities such as Milan.

The number of initial corona vaccinations in Italy is increasing

However, compulsory vaccination in Italy seems to be having an effect.

The Süddeutsche Zeitung reports that the number of first vaccinations in January increased more than it had since the fall.

People over 50 in particular are increasingly being vaccinated against the corona virus.
