(ANSA) - PANICALE (PERUGIA), 18 JAN - The vaccination campaign against Covid in the schools of the Trasimeno area is underway in Tavernelle, in the province of Perugia. The administration center was set up in the gym of the locality located in the municipality of Panicale.
"This initiative, realized in this way - explained Emilio Abbritti, director of the Trasimeno health district of Usl Umbria 1 - is one of the first in Italy and currently involves about 380 children, aged between 5 and 11, from all schools of this territory. We started from Tavernelle, but in the next few days we will reach all the other areas starting from Magione, Castiglione del Lago, Passignano, Tuoro and finally Città della Pieve ".
Abbritti recalled that "vaccination is absolutely on a voluntary basis by families and in the coming weeks it will also be extended to other districts of the region".
The head teacher of the Panicale-Piegaro-Paciano comprehensive institute, Simone Casucci, said he was "proud to have joined the initiative and the response we received from the families was very satisfactory".
Some mothers explained to ANSA that they had no doubts about the advisability of having their children vaccinated. "Vaccines - they say - have saved the world and a good mother has the duty to protect her child. And vaccination is a means of protection".
Even most of the children face the injection with serenity, although there was no lack of someone who shed a few tears at the sight of the needle.
