The corridors of the Arab Cultural Center in Al-Adawi were decorated with artistic paintings that embody the legacy of the late great plastic artist, Muhammad Naji Obeid, who is considered one of the great Syrian plastic artists, as he lived more than a hundred years spent in plastic creativity with his various techniques.

The exhibition included 43 carefully selected plastic paintings, and most of their titles were about women, Syrian heritage, and the Damascene environment with its ancient and heritage revival.

Researcher and journalist Mukhles al-Mahmoud said in a statement to SANA reporter that the late Obaid, born in 1918, is one of the pioneers in the history of plastic art and lived all kinds of Syrian heritage and creativity, especially plastic art. He benefited from European schools to apply them in a Syrian heritage manner with distinction, in addition to possessing more than one talent, including mastery of Arabic calligraphy.

In turn, the young man, Muhammad Obeid, son of the late, said that his father carried a purely artistic and not commercial message, and for the sake of his art he underwent harsh experiences, including the state of poverty that he knew in his childhood and youth, explaining that this exhibition restores his father's legacy and carries a humanitarian message.

Naima Suleiman, Director of Damascus Culture, pointed out the need to recall the great names, such as the late plastic artist Obeid, who left us a great imprint, and it is our duty to know the generations of this great stature.

Dr. Naglaa Al-Khadra explained that the artist Obeid is one of the traditional artists and he used to paint folk art in Syria, and he refused to subject it to the classical foundations and the rules of shadow, light and depth. Eggs, beeswax and gum arabic to keep it firm, age it and give it historical depth.
