Schongau – The strategic redesign of the current Schongau hospital location must be tackled quickly, was the conclusion of the citizens' dialogue in December.

A press event on Wednesday made it clear that this process is ongoing.

The reason for this, however, dates back to the autumn: a third specialist practice has been located under the roof of the hospital since October;

it is the specialist practice for visceral surgery and proctology headed by Dr.

Rolland Rosniatowski.

"In recent years, the length of stay in hospitals has become shorter and shorter, the process of outpatient treatment of medical services is being pushed more and more, and politicians are demanding that more and more services are provided on an outpatient basis that are still being treated as inpatients today." This is how Isa Berndt, spokeswoman for the hospital GmbH, on the changing framework conditions in the health care system. Professor Norbert Roeder, who is responsible for the corresponding report, also communicated this at the public dialogue on the future of the Schongau hospital in December.

His recommendation: The location will be transformed in its range of services and thus find its justification in order to continue to exist alongside a future central hospital.

Claus Rauschmeier, deputy managing director of the hospital GmbH, is responsible for setting up the outpatient center.

This consists of the specialist medical center and the outpatient surgery center.

The hospital is already being used as an outpatient surgery center when ophthalmologist Dr.

Dimitrios Soultanopoulos carries out his treatments on Fridays.

Also on site is the practice for neurological spinal surgery of chief physician Dr. Florian Soldner, the orthopedic practice of Dr. Immanuel Neuwirth and, since October, the specialist practice for visceral surgery and proctology headed by Dr. Rolland Rosniatowski. He specializes in abdominal (reflux, biliary disorders, abdominal pain, stomach, colon and rectal cancer), hernias (groin, navel, scars and diaphragm) and proctology.

"The specialist center is part of our strategy, which has been accompanied by intensive discussions," confirms Rauschmeier.

Further specialist practices are being planned.

Depending on the space required, there is currently capacity for a total of four to six.

Talks are being held with two other disciplines, and depending on the concept, more could be added in the future.

"We create attractive conditions and offer space for specialists to set up their practice with us." The aim is to take on a pioneering role throughout Bavaria and to create "chains", i.e. to bring several disciplines together spatially.

Coming together on the hospital mountain

"So the patient doesn't have to constantly change location."

Rosniatowski at some point in the neighborhood as useful.

But that is a "pious wish" and not part of the ongoing planning.

There is a lot in Schongau that could move together on the hospital mountain.

Under the same roof

The premises of the specialist practice are housed under the roof of the hospital.

According to Rauschmeier, plans are underway to create a separate barrier-free entrance by the second quarter of 2023.

A spatially clearly separated unit from the hospital should result for the visitor's orientation.

dr Rosniatowski has been senior physician at the clinic for general and visceral surgery in the hospital GmbH since 2017 - and will remain so. His current double function through the new role of "entrepreneur", as Rauschmeier describes it, makes him an important link, a bridge. "Now he has both glasses on." Rosniatowski already at his previous station in Marburg. In order to also realize this in Schongau, a special requirements license was required.

Apart from the fact that the practice is located in the hospital building, the hospital and branch are clearly separated. The points of contact that nevertheless exist are considered by Dr. Rosniatowski as great added value for the patient and mentions, among other things, the proximity to the emergency room and the inpatient facilities. When the newly operated person asks if he really has to go home, the answer is: no. "A practice closes at some point in the evening, a hospital doesn't," explains Dr. Rosniatowski. Normally, according to Rauschmeier, the purpose of outpatient procedures is: "To go home again on the same day."

Whereby Dr.

Rosniatowski emphasizes that not every short-term operation is also a simple operation.

experience is important.

“No assistants operate here for further training purposes.” He is amazed at how quickly so many patients have found the new practice.

The contact with the local general practitioners alone has so far brought about 300 new patients to the practice, and no advertising has been placed.

The need in the district is great.

"It's about basic and highly specialized care."
