The Ministry of Tourism, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, is completing the rehabilitation of the paths of the four ancient castles in Lattakia, Aleppo, Homs and Damascus, in parallel with the completion of planning studies for a number of tourist areas to offer sites for investment.
According to the Director of Tourism Development in the Ministry, Engineer Rola Asaad, the percentage of rehabilitation of part of the tourist track in the Citadel of Homs has reached 80 percent, while the second track of Salah El-Din Citadel in Lattakia is in the process of being completed, indicating in a statement to SANA that the rehabilitation of tourist tracks in the Citadels of Damascus and Aleppo is underway.
The rehabilitation of the tracks is part of the agreement signed between the Ministries of Tourism and Culture in 2019. The rehabilitation works include “weeding, restoring roads, surrounding walls and doors, and securing services for visitors.”
The directorate is also working this year, according to Asaad, on a set of projects in which it contracted with the General Company for Engineering Studies, including the Saliba Al-Turkman area in Latakia, in addition to conducting planning studies for the Burj Islam and Wadi Qandil areas in the governorate to increase investments and activate tourism in them.
Asaad indicated that contracting with engineering studies to complete the planning study for the Amrit area in preparation for offering sites for tourism investment in it as projects of various levels, including those that serve domestic tourism, indicating the preparation of the book of conditions for the environmental park in Kiwan Al-Shamali, which has an area of 135 dunums, within an agreement signed with the governorate of Damascus, for the studies to be contracted. Engineering to prepare the planning and executive study for the sites at the end of this month.
The Director of Tourism Development stated that a forum for investment in the field of tourism employment will be held soon to present important projects and opportunities for investors.
