The drive in a newly purchased Italian Ferrari sports car ended in a fatal accident for a TV candidate in Athens.

Athens – Giorgos Monogyios is dead. The reality show participant had an accident in Athens with a newly purchased sports car.

The 45-year-old's wife and passenger were taken to the hospital with serious injuries in the accident on Thursday (January 13), Greek media reported on Friday.

The car was reportedly a Ferrari.

The Athens expressway in question, on which the accident happened, is notorious for illegal car racing and tragic speeding accidents.

The case drew particular attention in Greece because Giorgos Monogyios, who died in the accident, is known to people as a participant in a reality show and the brother of a member of parliament.

According to the information, Monogyios had received his vehicle just a few minutes before the accident when, after a few kilometers on the three-lane expressway along the coast of Athens, he apparently lost control of his car and crashed into a tree. "It was like an earthquake when he sped past me," said an eyewitness after the accident. A friend of the driver, who was also driving behind in a sports car, said that in addition to the newly purchased car, there were also several other high-horsepower sports cars on the road.

Helpers were able to get the two occupants out of the car before the car caught fire - but any help came too late for the driver.

Greek media showed videos and photos of the burning and totally smashed car on Friday.
