The virus is also an issue in the Vatican.

Although strict rules apply, two high clergymen have now become infected.

One is considered number 2 behind the Pope.

Rome/Munich - The pandemic does not stop at the Vatican either: two high-ranking Vatican employees and close confidants of Pope Francis have tested positive for the corona virus.

Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin and his deputy, Archbishop Edgar Pena Parra, have isolated themselves in their apartments, the press office of the Holy See announced on Tuesday.

The Cardinal Secretary of State is the Vatican's most important diplomat and is therefore considered number two in the Papal States after the Pope.

Those affected have only mild or no symptoms - they are vaccinated

Fortunately, the disease has not affected those affected so far: Italian Parolin (67) has very mild symptoms, Venezuelan Pena Parra (61) has no symptoms.

Both clergymen were fully vaccinated with three doses, it said.

The precautions against the virus in the center of the Catholic Church are strict.

For example, the Vatican recently issued a rule that only vaccinated or recovered employees are allowed to enter their workplace in the Papal States.
