Values union boss sharply criticizes Merkel: "Has deceived the country for 16 years"

The chairman of the conservative CDU wing sees her as "GDR through and through", "in socialism" and as a deceiver.
Berlin/Munich - Unusually harsh criticism of the former chancellor from conservative circles: the chairman of the Union of Values, Max Otte, sharply attacked the former Chancellor Angela Merkel.
"The lady was GDR through and through, she was an apparatchik, she was a functionary, she was completely socialized in socialism," said Otte on Monday evening about the long-standing CDU chairwoman.
Otte went even further: "To this day it is still incomprehensible to me that an entire country let itself be deceived by her - for 16 years or more. What she has accomplished is an incredible masterpiece and it is a work of destruction.” He referred this to the energy transition, the euro crisis, migration and the corona pandemic. The Value Union describes itself as a conservative grassroots movement within the CDU and CSU with around 4,000 members. She supports the future CDU chairman Friedrich Merz. It is not an official party organization.
Otte supported the so-called "walks" by critics of the Corona measures and expressed the hope that many more people would take to the streets.
"This country is drifting into undemocratic conditions," said Otte.
Freedom of expression is restricted.
"We are in a cultural revolution." Some of the Corona walkers often violate the mask requirement with unannounced demonstrations and have to be called to order with large police forces.
Journalists have also been attacked.

Otte expressed himself in an online discussion, in which the former President of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Hans-Georg Maassen, also took part.

Maassen is "a fanatical anti-leftist, while his distancing from the right-wing, non-democratic fringe seems rather dull and dutiful". Maßen criticized that arguments from critics were hidden: "There is an increase. First you're a swaggerer, then a lateral thinker, then a right-wing populist, then a right-wing radical, then you come to be a fascist, a Nazi, and then you're an anti-Semite. The increase is probably still, I don't know, I can hardly imagine it. I think if you are an anti-Semite in Germany, that is the most serious accusation you can make in this country, then you are excluded from the democratic discourse altogether.”
Entrepreneur Moritz Hunzinger, who took part in the discussion, also made debatable statements.
Among other things, he complained that too many journalists with a migration background could be seen in public broadcasts: “When I look at the morning magazine to get my temperature up, we now have over half of the faces that definitely have a migration background.
That's too oversized for me." Hunzinger caused a stir in 2019 with a statement on Facebook when he posted: "With Kohl, there would be no such hideous mass immigration of savages."
