"Blitzwinter" is coming to Bavaria: snow down to low altitudes - drivers beware!

At the end of the week it will be wintry in Bavaria.
Polar air flows from the north into the Free State and has a thick snow roll on board.
Munich – So far, the winter of 2021/22 has shown its toothless side.
At the halfway point in winter - meaning the meteorological winter - last weekend, meteorologists summed up that it was 2.5 degrees warmer than the 30-year average, as summarized by expert Dominik Jung.
So far, January has even been four degrees too warm.
But that should change towards the end of the week.
The “Blitzwinter” comes on Thursday.

Weather in Bavaria: Polar air brings snow and danger of ice

Already in the night on Thursday the values rushed into the basement. Minus six degrees in Passau and Kempten. And in Berchtesgaden, minus nine degrees is scratching the double digits.
On Thursday, the "48-hour winter comes to Germany," says Jung.
A snowstorm is said to be sweeping across the country and even winter thunderstorms are possible.
The snow line sometimes drops to 400 meters.
There will be sleet underneath.
In traffic jams - especially in the low mountain ranges - up to 15 centimeters of fresh snow can fall.

And while the snow falls in Germany on Friday afternoon, Bavaria does another extra lap.
Weather in Bavaria: Winter 2022 will be too warm
The air will be milder again this weekend. However, the temperatures hardly make it above freezing. In Lower Franconia it will be the warmest at four degrees. It can also rain there on Saturday. Otherwise it snows in the rest of the Free State with values between zero degrees in Munich and three degrees in Regensburg. Only on Sunday does the snow fall and the Bavarian sky remains gray.
From a meteorological point of view, winter will last until the end of February.
But according to expert Jung, we no longer have much to expect from him.
"It is possible that the severe cold will come in February, but very unlikely." And according to the first forecasts, March should even be extremely warm.
All the rumblings from the ice winter with lots of snow last year seem to have disappeared faster than the coming onset of winter in Bavaria.
