Gröbenzell - The posters left no doubt: "Vaccination - I like it" and "Science is not an opinion" were emblazoned in garish letters on the unrolled banners.

With these and similar slogans, the around 60 participants in the "Gröbenzell solidarity" rally on the town hall square wanted to form a counterpoint to the so-called "walkers".

The latter had repeatedly demonstrated criticism of the vaccination campaign and the government's corona measures in Gröbenzell in the past few weeks.

The counter-event was organized on a cross-party basis by several Gröbenzell municipal councils and the senior citizens' advisory board.

The two incumbent mayors also took part in the rally.

The place and time of the meeting were deliberately chosen in order to be present at the same time as the "walkers" in front of the municipal administration.

Rally as a sign of solidarity

"Recently, a small minority with so-called walks gave the impression that there was great social resistance to the Corona measures, which serve to protect our health and show solidarity with our fellow human beings.

But that's not the case," said municipal council member Walter Voit of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen.

That is why it is important to send a sign of solidarity with all people who are threatened by the pandemic or who have shown particular commitment in overcoming the crisis, such as the nursing staff or the medical profession, according to Voit.

Since the SPD municipal councils had properly registered the rally, in contrast to the "walkers", it was clear to Voit in advance: "The town hall square belongs to us this evening!"

Rathausstraße separates vaccination advocates and vaccination critics

There was no dispute about the town hall square. While the vaccination advocates lined up with their masks on the square in front of the community library, the "walkers" posted on the opposite side, directly in front of the entrance to the community administration, the Rathausstraße separated the two groups. Every now and then a poster was held up in front of the library - demonstratively in the direction of "walkers", who just stood together quietly in groups, one or the other holding a candle or lantern. Until the police present asked them to move on and to keep the distances. There were no discussions or even arguments between the two groups.

"We don't want any arguments at all," said Sonja Scherzinger, chairwoman of the SPD Gröbenzell.

"But we also don't want to give space to those who no longer want to follow the rules.

And we also clearly distance ourselves from the unpeaceful mob.” Scher-

Zinger when she is portrayed as a supporter of the vaccination campaign and corona measures as if she were simply doing everything the government prescribed without thinking.

"We're also thinking people," says Scherzinger.
