(CNN) --

A Conservative UK lawmaker on Wednesday openly called on his party's Prime Minister Boris Johnson to resign from the British Parliament on Wednesday.

This is the latest of the torrents of criticism that Johnson has received from both legislators and citizens for his alleged participation in a party held at his residence in violation of covid-19 regulations.

Conservative MP David Davis told Parliament that he "like many in these benches" had "spent weeks and months defending the prime minister in front of often angry constituents".

"I expect my leaders to take responsibility for the actions they take. Yesterday (Tuesday), he did the opposite of that," Davis continued.

Davis then proceeded to blurt out a quote once delivered by lawmaker Leo Amory to wartime Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain: "You've been sitting there too long for the good you've done. In God's name, get out."

Responding to Davis, Boris Johnson replied by saying that he has taken "full responsibility for everything that has been done in this government and during the pandemic."
