A new supply truck in Erkheim helps throughout the district

With a new supply truck, the district and the Erkheim fire brigade are even better equipped for emergencies.

Unterallgäu - In an emergency, the district will be able to use a so-called supply truck with mobile emergency power - for example in the event of a power failure.

This can be life-saving for ventilation patients.

"This means we are even better prepared as a disaster control authority," says a happy Alexander Möbus, district fire officer at the Unterallgäu district office.

The vehicle has been made available to the district by the Free State of Bavaria for civil protection. The district in turn stationed the truck at the fire brigade in Erkheim. "This means that it is housed in a high-performance fire department in the Unterallgäu," explains Möbus. The vehicle with the radio name "Florian Erkheim 56/1" may be used by the community's fire department without restrictions. In return, the municipality will set up a parking space in the fire station, which is already planned. And if necessary, the Erkheim fire brigade will also be deployed across the district with the new vehicle.

However, it is still a pure supply truck that can be used to transport various materials such as hoses or sandbags to the site.

However, the vehicle will soon be equipped with a trailer including an emergency generator and roll containers for the power supply, explains the district fire council.

An example from Erkheim shows how important a functioning power supply is.

Emergency power can save lives

There is accommodation there for mechanically ventilated patients who urgently need electricity.

According to Möbus, the new emergency power truck could ensure the supply of these people in the event of a power failure.

For this reason, too, the district decided to station the vehicle there.

Background: As a civil protection authority, the Unterallgäu district office does not have its own emergency services.

However, as such an authority, the office can fall back on all other authorities and departments of the Free State of Bavaria and in particular on the fire brigades and voluntary aid organizations in the event of a disaster.

They are obliged to participate in civil protection.
