Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed reservations about the risk of Russia invading his country.

"The risks are not new, and they have not increased," he said in a speech.

"The hype about them has only gotten bigger." Zelenskyy said that there hadn't already been an invasion in 2014, alluding to the annexation of Crimea by Russia.

Not the country, but the nerves of the citizens would be attacked, "so that you have a constant feeling of alarm," said Selenskyj, who apparently fears economic consequences from the fear of war in the country: Citizens should refrain from panic buying and hasty cash withdrawals.

The aim is to weaken Ukraine's economy so that the Ukrainian "no" on certain issues becomes weaker, Zelensky said.

Zelenskyj had previously met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Blinken is expected to hold talks on the Ukraine conflict in Berlin on Thursday, and Blinken wants to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Geneva on Friday.

Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock had previously spoken to Selenskyj and Lavrov.

For months, the United States and NATO have accused Russia of planning an attack on Ukraine.

The Russian military massed around 100,000 soldiers on the border with Ukraine.

Moscow points out that these are its own troops on its own territory.

Above all, Russia wants to use the deployment near Ukraine to create a threatening backdrop because it says it sees itself increasingly threatened by NATO expansion.

Moscow is demanding binding security guarantees from the West.
