The proposal came from the Vhs Geretsried, the two adult education centers in Wolfratshausen and Bad Tölz are behind to found a network.

The managers hope for synergy effects.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen – The Wolfratshauser and the Tölz adult education center (Vhs) expect synergy effects from a network with the one in Geretsried.

At the end of last year, Thomas Schmid, controller in the Geretsried town hall, and the Vhs manager there, Beate Ruda, suggested founding one (we reported).

In the meantime, there has already been a meeting, reports Christine Hohnheiser, managing director of the Wolfratshauser Vhs, when asked by our newspaper.

More are to follow.

For an association, for example, common terms and conditions (General Terms and Conditions) and a uniform schedule of fees and charges would have to be drawn up.

Hohnheiser assumes that it will take one and a half to two years before such a network can be closed.

The ball started rolling because the Geretsrieder Vhs did not come up with the number of so-called double participant hours prescribed by the Bavarian Adult Education Association.

In the meantime it should be 30,000, in the reference year 2019 the Geretsrieder Vhs only had 20,050, although according to Ruda it was the best year so far.

This leads to a growing deficit that the city has to compensate for.

The Vhs is municipally operated in Geretsried.

Vhs Wolfratshausen has to fight for every euro

Both problems do not exist in Wolfratshausen.

There, the Vhs is an association that has to make do with a fixed subsidy from the city.

"Otherwise we have to finance ourselves from the participation fees," explains Hohnheiser, which means a fight for every euro.

"We sometimes calculate very hard." The required double hours of participants also do not cause any problems in the rafting town - in 2019 the Vhs came to 48,000. The managing director explains this with the different structures.

"We have rented permanent premises ourselves."

Nevertheless, Hohnheiser sees a network of adult education centers in the district as positive.

"I think a larger organizer works well in public," says the managing director.

A common program could also be printed, and a comprehensive administration program would be more customer-friendly.

We are already working closely with the Tölzer Vhs because it is also an association.

"When you make decisions together, you feel more secure," says Hohnheiser.

And since Geretsried lies in between, cooperation is only logical.

"I think we will have a lot of positive effects."

In Bad Tölz there is already an association with Lenggries

The situation is similar in Bad Tölz. There has been an association with Vhs Lenggries for several years. "That makes sense," says manager Marcus Stiegler. Like the one in Wolfratshausen, the Tölzer adult education center is an association. In 2019, around 46,000 participants came together for double hours. Even if the Tölzer are not dependent on a network, they are "open to the proposal", according to Stiegler. One knows about the requirements that have to be met in order to be able to remain as an adult education center. "You don't let the other down," emphasizes Stiegler.

The idea is that each Vhs remains financially and legally independent, but that the facilities in the district should be of a piece.

To do this, some adjustments would have to be made.

"The devil is in the detail," says Stiegler.

But his feelings tell him that the project will not fail.

"I think the bond will come."
