Once a popular restaurant, then a snack bar, finally an eyesore in the West End for 15 years: the so-called kebab shop had an eventful history.
After its demolition, a chic boarding house is to be built.
Construction will start in the coming months.
What a difference!
For 15 years, the neighbors had to watch the kebab shop deteriorate - including the plague of rats.
Then a gaping vacant lot in a prime location followed for almost two years.
Now it is clear what will characterize the corner of Schwanthalerstrasse and Schiesstättstrasse in the future.
A chic boarding house is planned there, in which 30 apartments can be rented on six floors.
The building permit has already been granted, and the starting signal for the boarding house should be given in a few months.
This is what the new boarding house should look like.

The kebab house was demolished in 2020
"With the advanced planning, construction can now begin in the second quarter of 2022," says property owner Josef Biermeier via his "biermeier bau values gmbh". He had bought the former Ried restaurant, which later got the name Döner-Haus, for 4.85 million euros at a foreclosure auction in 2019. That was the third appointment. Two previously scheduled foreclosures did not occur. In any case, the kebab shop has an eventful history: the building had been uninhabited since 2005, making it THE symbol of the vacancy problem in the city. Activists use the kebab shop as a place for demonstrations. Meanwhile, the neighbors suffered from the increasing decay: Parts of the building simply fell off, vermin and rats spread in the garbage. With each passing year, the condition of the kebab shop got worse.
The new building is to be completed by the end of 2023.
Plans to build a hotel in its place never materialized due to the then owner's financial problems.
District politicians have long advocated residential development on the site.
The boarding house, which Ried will lease to an operator, can be seen as a compromise: an accommodation facility will be created by the end of 2023, but the apartments will mostly be rented out for longer periods
