A woman wanted to buy voucher cards for 1000 euros in an Aldi in Troisdorf.

This made the cashier skeptical - he saved the woman from fraud.

Troisdorf – An Aldi cashier in Troisdorf became a real everyday hero on Tuesday.

The man became suspicious when a woman was shopping at the checkout and saved her from losing her money to particularly brazen scammers, reports 24RHEIN.

Troisdorf: Aldi cashier “switches absolutely right” – and prevents fraud

The 64-year-old was at the checkout in an Aldi market on Im Zehntfeld street in Troisdorf (Rhein-Sieg district).

There she wanted to buy voucher cards for an online shop for 1000 euros.

That aroused the suspicions of the attentive Aldi cashier.

"When asked, the woman from Troisdorf stated that she needed the tickets to retrieve a lottery win.

The supermarket employee switched absolutely correctly, informed the woman about the alleged attempt at fraud and called the police," reports a police spokesman about the unusual incident.

Fraudsters wanted to trick a woman from Troisdorf - Aldi cashier prevented that

Shortly thereafter, it became clear that the woman was called by an alleged profit center on the same day.

There she was promised a supposed lottery win of 38,000 euros.

A notary and a security company would deliver the prize to the woman in cash.

All she has to do: buy the voucher cards as payment for the notary and the security company.

Then she was also called by the alleged notary's office.

“She also received a fake email from a lottery company.

In good faith, the woman from Troisdorf then set off and luckily was stopped by the cashier," says the police spokesman.

Brazen scam in Troisdorf: Police give tips on correct behavior

The case is reminiscent of a net cashier who prevented a pensioner from being scammed in February 2021.

Back then, in Dormagen, it was about an alleged competition and payment for the notary and transport using online vouchers.

The police urgently warns of such scams – and gives tips on how those affected should behave:

  • Be aware: if you haven't entered a lottery, you haven't won anything!

  • Never spend money to claim a supposed prize, pay no fees or dial special numbers (e.g. 0900, 0180, 0137 etc.)

  • Don't make any promises over the phone.

  • Never give out personal information: no telephone numbers and addresses, account details, sort codes, credit card numbers or similar

  • Ask the caller for the name, address and phone number of those responsible, what type of competition it is and what exactly you won.

    Note the answers.

  • If in doubt, dial 110. If you have already been scammed, be sure to report it to the police!
