Annalena Baerbock is facing a real endurance test in Russia.

One can only wish luck - but a ricochet hits from the Union, comments Alexander Weber.

In the struggle for the top position in the Greens, Robert Habeck learned painfully that "man" should not underestimate Annalena Baerbock.

The fact that the ambitious party leader's trees aren't growing sky high was proven by her disastrous candidacy for chancellor last summer.

The attributes “woman” and “young” – taken alone – are not a guarantee of success for better politics.

Baerbock in Russia: Green Foreign Minister meets the "Eiger north face" of diplomacy

The new foreign minister is now faced with her first real endurance test: her inaugural visit to Moscow.

In the Kremlin, she and Sergei Lavrov encountered the personification of the North Face of the Eiger in international diplomacy: rugged, ice-cold and dismissive.

It will be exciting to see how Baerbock fares against the well-rounded Russian roughneck.

Even for experienced foreign politicians, going to Moscow in the current Ukraine crisis and being asked to find out more concrete information about President Vladimir Putin's true intentions would be a Herculean task.

One can only wish her luck.

Baerbock on a difficult Russia mission: Merz gives a hit to the office on the way

Baerbock does not exactly get tailwind for her mission from the designated CDU leader Friedrich Merz.

His criticism that the West should not threaten Russia's exclusion from the Swift system because it would do so much harm to itself is worth considering.

However, so close to Baerbock's trip, this public advice is a slap in the face.

Lavrov will take it as proof that the West is as he and Putin see it anyway: divided and weak.
