The corona incidence in Lower Saxony continues to rise while the pace of vaccination is falling.

Karl Lauterbach calls for compulsory vaccination and names a specific period.

Hanover – The incidence in Lower Saxony continues to rise slightly, unequal to the willingness of the population to be vaccinated – the vaccination rate is slowing down.

Karl Lauterbach now names a possible time for compulsory vaccination, which Lower Saxony's Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) also advocates.

For the first time in Germany, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports more than 100,000 new infections with the corona virus - in the future, anyone could become infected.

Despite the currently only slightly increasing corona numbers in Lower Saxony, Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) calls for compulsory vaccination.

In view of the overall pandemic dynamics of the last few weeks and months, he sees it as the only way to break the "vicious circle of ever new waves of infection and intermittent relaxation".

In his state, the rate of vaccination is currently falling, and there are now numerous demands from politicians for compulsory vaccination.

Increasing incidence: Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) names the time for compulsory vaccination against Corona in Germany

The incidence is increasing: Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD), who recently warned of the return of a mutating Delta variant, has been in favor of compulsory vaccination for some time. Now he named a concrete date for the possible start. In order to avert the wave in autumn, vaccination must be compulsory by April, or May at the latest. Those who have not been vaccinated would have to go through three more vaccination cycles, so Lauterbach believes that urgency is required. At the same time, he shares the view of the virologist Christian Drosten, who assumes that everyone would become infected in the future – that is not an argument against vaccination, on the contrary.

The vaccination also weakens the course of an infection.

Lauterbach explained that after three doses, the vaccination would probably offer protection against almost all variants of the pandemic, "at least against serious illness and death".

Interim results of a new study from Israel suggest that even a fourth vaccination dose of current vaccines is not sufficient for complete protection against omicron.

Karl Lauterbach reacted disappointed to the results on Twitter and called for adapted omicron vaccines.

Biontech is already planning an adapted Omicron vaccine, while Moderna is working on a vaccine that will act as a booster shot against both the corona virus and influenza, i.e. the flu.

Vaccination speed in Lower Saxony decreases despite increasing incidence in the corona pandemic, the vaccination requirement should change that

In Lower Saxony, the rate of vaccination is falling - this does not seem to be due to a lack of opportunities, but to the willingness to vaccinate. The deputy head of the Corona crisis team explained that there is currently no need for more vaccination centers in Lower Saxony, but for more people willing to be vaccinated. In the first two weeks of January, just over 900,000 vaccinations were counted in Stephan Weil's state, a value that falls well short of December. In Lower Saxony, 226 mobile vaccination teams and 4,800 resident doctors are working on the vaccination campaign - pharmacies are also to be vaccinated soon.

Johnson & Johnson vaccinated people in Lower Saxony will need a third vaccination for booster status in the future, there are new rules for the vaccine.

The concern about side effects* still plays a role for many hesitant Germans, despite the increasing incidence, further clarification is needed.

If Stephan Weil and Karl Lauterbach have their way, compulsory vaccination should remedy the problem of the faltering vaccination campaign – and as soon as possible.* kreiszeitung.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
