Difficult search for the right roof

The planned central bus station (ZOB) will be a formative element for Gmund.

The search for the most pleasing solution is all the more difficult.

The municipal council dealt with it again and initially decided in favor of a display scaffold.

Gmund - In September, the Augsburg office "Löhle Neubauer Architekten" presented variants for the planned central bus station, southwest of the listed station building, for the first time.

The designs all failed, architect Rainer Löhle and his colleagues had to develop new solutions on the following basis: A roof as a simple, filigree structure made of wood, which does not visually outperform the station building, guarantees a view of the lake and mountains and offers good shelter options wind and weather offers.

Gmund is a central public transport hub

Mayor Alfons Besel (FWG)

According to Mayor Alfons Besel (FWG), district master builder Christian Boiger has meanwhile given his basic okay for a canopy, which is at least 60 meters long, since three buses are to arrive and depart on each side.

"Gmund is a central public transport hub, the largest in the district after Miesbach and Holzkirchen," said Besel ahead of the renewed presentation and the again controversial debate.

The municipal councils struggled – not only with the topic, but also with the technology.

Because the first session of the new year was held in hybrid form.

Seven councillors, as well as the team of architects, were connected via screen, their speeches could hardly be understood in the large Neureuther hall.

Roofing for the Gmund bus station: three new variants are available

The architects had again worked out three variants: A 60-centimetre-thick flat roof, consisting of a thick wooden panel resting on steel supports, for which there were also different variants.

Total height: 5.30 meters.

Variant 2 forms a flat roof, which is designed with diamonds on the underside, total height: 5.66 meters.

Variant 3 is a gabled roof with central supports and a total height of 7.05 metres.

The roof alone would be 2.05 meters.

Besel admitted that it was difficult to imagine the dimensions.

He therefore suggested setting up a scaffolding as soon as possible, which was consistently welcomed.

The opinions, expressed partly on the screen, partly at the lectern in the middle of the hall, were contrary.

Michael Huber (Greens) not only wanted a 3D visualization that was easy to understand, but also warned that enough space and capacity for power lines and photovoltaics should be planned.

In the future, e-buses will also be able to refuel here.

Gable roof for bus station?

"An Insane Dimension"

Korbinian Kohler (CSU) considered a gable roof to be “highly problematic” because of the “insane dimensions”.

He suggested taking the plans from the first presentation out of the drawer again, which Christine Zierer (FWG) also recommended.

"Because what is now available is not exactly filigree," complained Zierer.

Johann Schmid (SPD) and also Florian Floßmann (FWG) were harsh on all variants with the clear height of the shelter of 4.70 meters.

"Does it have to be that high?" Schmid asked.

"There shouldn't be any double-deckers parked there." Functionality was the priority for him.

Floßmann was also surprised and called for a reduction of 30 to 40 centimeters.

"Bridges are only built with a clear height of 4.50 meters," he knew.

Solution for Gmund bus station: Or is it "three houses from the building yard?"

If anything, Franz von Preysing (CSU) liked the gable roof variant best.

In view of the lack of well-founded statements on this, he openly criticized the team of architects.

He appealed to his colleagues: "It's an investment of millions just for a roof.

The space will also cost a lot of money,” says Preysing.

"We could also consider putting up three little houses from the building yard, which we could do ourselves."

Besel defended the architect's office.

It was hired to advise the community.

When asked, Rainer Löhle made his point of view clear: “We would like to create something unique.

This would put the station in the foreground as a monument.”

"A complex matter" summed up Besel at the end, after the way forward was clear: with one dissenting vote, it was decided to set up a display scaffold.

The old goods hall at the station will be gone at the beginning of February

Even if it is still unclear what the roof will look like, the old goods hall will be removed at the beginning of February.

Like the platform roof, it is not a listed building, as Besel informed.
