The former member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament and former AfD politician Stefan Räpple has been sentenced to ten months' imprisonment on probation for publicly calling for crimes and resisting law enforcement officers.

According to the decision of the Mainz Regional Court on Wednesday, the 40-year-old must also pay 2,400 euros - two net cold rents - to a non-profit organization.

Mainz/Stuttgart - The large criminal court saw it as proven that Räpple, as a speaker at a demonstration in Mainz on September 26, 2020 on the subject of Corona, called for the violent overthrow of the federal government.

On August 29, 2020, he also took part in demonstrations against measures to contain the corona pandemic in Berlin.

He and several hundred people are said to have climbed over the barriers set up in front of the Reichstag building and violently resisted police officers who wanted to clear the stairs to the Reichstag.

The fact that the accused confessed to the - video-documented - acts in full, had no criminal record and was no longer politically active had a mitigating effect, said the presiding judge Matthias Weidemann in the verdict.

The court made it more difficult that Räpple had disregarded his special responsibility as a member of the state parliament.

Räpple thanked the public prosecutor for the "warning shot" that had been the charge against him and apologized.

His defense attorney announced that he would not appeal the verdict.
