In her studio located south of the city of Taichung, 51-year-old Kacey Wong drinks her coffee from British-style cups.
“
Hongkong ,
”
reads, painted on the saucer.
“
These cups remind me of where I come from
,” says the artist who, six months earlier, settled down in this city in central Taiwan.
A journey which, according to him, will be without return.
Like Kacey Wong, thousands of Hong Kongers have gone into exile since Beijing decreed its National Security Law (NSL) in Hong Kong on July 1, 2020, opening the door to a crackdown on political opposition. and diminishing the autonomy of the island.
If the wealthiest generally fly to Western countries, many of them choose Taiwan, where the cost of living is more affordable, and the culture similar.
