Five people were killed and several others injured in a fire that broke out this morning in a home for the elderly in eastern Spain.
AFP quoted rescue teams as saying that the fire broke out in a nursing home in Valencia, where six fire engines went to the scene, and rescuers managed to extract five bodies, while 11 people were taken to hospital after inhaling smoke.
Firefighters rescued 25 people from the blaze before all 70 residents of the home were evacuated.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have been caused by electrical friction in a ventilator unit.
