The 83-year-old former president, removed from power in a military coup in 2021, left the West African state on Monday, government officials said on condition of anonymity. . But the junta did not confirm his departure. She released a video on Tuesday with the caption indicating that Alpha Condé had left for treatment in the United Arab Emirates. The latter, dressed in a suit, goes to an unidentified airport before boarding a plane, according to these images.

At the head of the country for nearly eleven years, Alpha Condé was overthrown on September 5, 2021 by Colonel Mamady Doumbouya and his men.

He was held incommunicado for twelve weeks until the junta allowed him to stay with his wife in the suburbs of Conakry.

The junta is said to have been reluctant to let him leave the country, fearing plots on his part against the new power, but it authorized him to leave the country at the end of December for medical examinations.

His release was part of the demands of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), with the holding of elections within six months.

ECOWAS has suspended Guinea from its authorities and individually sanctioned the members of the junta led by Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, who has had himself invested as transitional president.

Alpha Condé has been authorized to leave Guinea when the justice has just ordered the opening of investigations into the alleged crimes committed under his presidency.
