The fire brigade and the city had warned of smoke gases, but withdrawn this warning shortly after 1 p.m.

"There may be occasional odor nuisance," the city said.

The warning app NINA had also triggered.

So far four people have been injured, including two children.

The fire broke out in a warehouse in the "Am Herbertzhof" commercial area on Hafelsstrasse in the Oppum district. “The hall is about 20 by 40 meters. The extinguishing work is ongoing on site," reports a spokesman for the fire brigade to 24RHEIN. The emergency services were particularly concerned about the very heavy smoke produced by the fire. The clouds of smoke are moving over the districts of Oppum and Linn.

, the fire is said to have broken out at the Glas Osman company.

Two adults and two children were injured and taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation.

The fire is under control but far from extinguished.

The firefighting is expected to last until the evening.

It can only be extinguished from the outside because parts of the roof have collapsed.

Emergency services from Duisburg are also supporting the extinguishing work on site.

There is a Globus market directly opposite the glass company.

The furniture store “Kitchen Aktuell” is located next to the glass company.

A dm supermarket, a gas station and a McDonald's are also in the vicinity.

Krefeld: Major fire in Oppum – "Close windows and doors"

The fire brigade carried out measurements in the air to check whether and how harmful the smoke gases are.

The all-clear was given shortly after 1 p.m.

"So far, no hazards for the population have been identified," reports fire brigade spokesman Christoph Manten.

The police have already taken over the investigation into the cause of the fire.

The fire brigade is on site with 110 emergency services to fight the flames.

The city has also warned the population with sirens.

Several roads are closed.

Motorists should avoid the scene of the accident.

The bus service of Stadtwerke Krefeld is also affected by the major fire.

Lines 047 and 052 have to be diverted.

“The route between (H) Philipp-Reis-Str.

and (H) Bischofstr.

is temporarily closed in both directions due to a fire brigade operation," explains the municipal utility for line 047. In the case of line 052, the section between the Siemesdyk and Bischofstraße stops is affected.
