The dilapidated building is currently being renovated from the ground up.

By the end of the year you want to be on the home stretch.

Pentenried

– Andreas Krause is passionate about his life project.

You notice that immediately – from every word and every gesture, from every brick he has picked up during the two-year renovation phase.

The Stockdorfer has been renovating the old distillery in Pentenried since January 2020.

Now he hopes to be finished by the end of the year.

Acquired in 2019

In 2019, the product and industrial designer acquired the area from the cooperative of the former grain and potato distillery. "I was one of several applicants," remembers Andreas Krause. In the end he got the contract. Krause was the only one who wanted to keep the old distillery with its almost 25 meter high chimney, which can be seen from afar, as much as possible. However, the old outbuilding had to be completely demolished. A so-called "link" will soon be created there between the original distillery and a new industrial hall, which is to be rented out commercially separately from the other buildings. The approximately 300 square meter hall will have its own driveway, says Krause. She is very much in demand. However, he already has a promising prospect from the region. However, he does not want to reveal his name and trade: "Nothing has been signed yet."

Wood from the family forest

A volume of around 2.5 million euros was estimated for the large-scale project. A sum that Andreas Krause tries to undercut with a lot of work and support. For example, he uses wood he cut himself for the solid wood roof structure. "I generated ten cubic meters of spruce wood from our family forest near Lake Chiemsee," says Krause. Everything is currently still under construction. Everywhere there is a draft, since the roof is partially missing. The construction on the old distillery has not yet started. "Certainly a tight schedule until the end of the year," says Krause and laughs. Andreas Krause wants to move in here on the upper floor above the distillery with his daughter and partner. On the ground floor below, next to a spacious room, towards the local road, another opportunity for commercial rental.

The heart, however, remains the distillery in the middle of the estate. Andreas Krause says that he immediately recognized the potential the first time he walked in. “The orientation, the position in the sun, is simply ideal. It doesn't get any better than that.” In the first year and a half of the construction phase, he demolished, supported and laid the foundations himself. He still does almost everything himself today. So that the old brick look can be rebuilt, the bricks have to be examined carefully for defects: "Every broken brick is then knocked out and replaced." Pure craftsmanship. The high rooms with a slight vault in industrial design will later serve as an event location. The client can imagine readings, parties, smaller wedding parties or even cooking events. The 43-year-old also has many ideas for the basement below. The charming basement area with many windows and a round arch design could become home to a coffee roastery or a café with a chocolate shop. "The main thing," says Krause, "is a concept that the public allows. It's just too beautiful down there.”

His credo of letting old and new play together will also be reflected in the extension.

Here the 130-year-old well with a depth of more than 18 meters and the old chimney of the distillery are to be staged with glazing and lighting.

That's the plan - by the end of the year.
