With the evacuation of Sheikh Jarrah, Bennett and Shaked evacuated what Netanyahu did not dare in the days leading up to Operation Wall Guard • This was further linguistic proof among right-wing leaders

In exemplary silence, and without too many ripples, one of the buildings invaded by Arab families in the Shimon Hatzadik (Sheikh Jarrah) neighborhood in East Jerusalem was evacuated and demolished on Tuesday night.

Although this is one house and a different issue from the houses that caused the tension that preceded Operation The Wall Guard, it can already be said that the evacuation is a classic example of the Greek tragedy that is taking place here politically.

Bennett and Shaked cleared what Bibi did not dare in the days leading up to the operation.

But in order to maintain the integrity of the coalition and not provoke international echoes, they were silenced - and thus another linguistic proof between right-wing leaders evaporated into the pages of history.

In order to understand how hypocritical the voices calling for an evacuation are, in the guise of human rights, we will mention that all the courts that discussed the issue ruled that these were invaders, who refused any compromise offered to them.

The area of the Shimon Hatzadik neighborhood was purchased by Jews as early as 1875, but was abandoned during the War of Independence and liberated during the Six Day War.

After a complicated procedure, the houses were returned to their rightful owners, and it was agreed between the Arab tenants and the Jewish owners that the former would pay rent, recognize the Jewish ownership of the place and undertake to maintain the property - and in return be granted protected resident status.

But over the years the agreement has not been fulfilled, and was later denied.

The Magistrates Court ordered the evacuees to be evacuated by early 2021, and an appeal filed in the district was dismissed.

The Supreme Court proposed a compromise that was rejected, and has not yet written a verdict.

For those who have forgotten, we will mention: In May 2021, shortly before Operation The Guardian of the Walls, the High Court granted the Spokesman's request to postpone the evacuation of the mentioned invaders, for fear of escalation.

It was another step in a series of policy submissions to Hamas threatening to stir up territory, at the end of which (and perhaps because of) Hamas launched a campaign.

Shortly before, the checkpoints at the Nablus Gate were removed, with a chilling resemblance to the magnetometers affair.

As expected, the threats shifted to opposition to the ascent of Jews to the Temple Mount on Jerusalem Day, and it was not long before Hamas accepted this demand.

The threats then moved to the flag dance outline, and the rest is history.

Two weeks earlier, Hamas fired 40 rockets at the south, and despite the chief of staff's recommendation to respond forcefully, the political echelon was restrained.

I do not want to claim that everything that happens in this strange hybrid government is good for the Jews, and I have a lot of criticism of quite a few of its moves, but it is important to remember - something forgotten in the personal debate within the right - that the right is a way, not a persona.

Were we wrong?
