Both "Zero Hour" and "My Nephew Benz" present the school as a territory in which education and values no longer live • The series testifies to the growing tendency to place teachers, students and parents on opposite sides of an educational barricade

Two weeks ago, actor Sydney Poitier passed away.

Throughout his groundbreaking career, Poitiers also starred in two well-known films whose plot took place within the walls of the school.

In one, "The Seed of Disaster" from 1955, he played a wild student, and in the other, "My Lord in Love" from 1967, he moved to the other side of the class and played a charismatic teacher.

These films helped make the educational journey a beloved theme in American cinema.

They were followed, among other things, by "Walking After Him" and the Harry Potter films, which described, in turn, the blessed encounter that takes place between a teacher and his students, and the fruitful dialogue between them that such an encounter might produce.

The popularity of school films has revealed the shared belief among teachers, students and parents of all ages in the ability of educational institutions to serve as meaningful, two-life places. In a world that is constantly being undermined, the classroom was photographed as a stable and valued oasis, a support group that equips its members with the knowledge and mental strength needed to continue on the path. Janusz Korczak's wonderful definition of the teacher as an "experienced friend" was presented in all its glory. In the English-speaking film classrooms, the eternal need for the transfer of knowledge and life skills from teacher to student, from generation to generation, was discovered. Unfortunately, a search for similar Hebrew-speaking classes is immediately crowned with a failed grade.

"Do you think you're Korczak ?!" Slaps one teacher at another teacher in one of the first scenes in the "Zero Hour" series and makes it clear to us that we are no longer in Hogwarts. The series in question, which recently aired on "Here 11," provides grim conclusions about the qualities of the local teacher. Amir, the citizenship teacher of the series' protagonist, is not driven by concern for the students and the profession he has chosen to teach, but by a desire to gain sympathy and victory in every debate and debate that takes place in his classroom. When he fails to deal with the claims of a tumultuous and talented student, he has no problem releasing an insulting remark about her weight. The comment reveals his commitment to preserving his external image even at the cost of harming his trainees. His classmates also find it difficult to qualify for the educational purpose, and the inevitable result is that the school is transformed from a city of refuge into a battlefield. In "Zero Hour" the teachers teach their students a lesson in strength and the lesson is internalized and well implemented.

The series "My nephew Benz" - funny, witty and cute as it may be - does not bode well for the status of education in Israel.

It too is devoted to describing the plots of a lustful teacher and also in it the students are presented as smarter than your poor educator.

They're trying to grow up while he just wants to sit on the principal's armchair.

To this end he sells his soul to the devil and discovers that school is the hottest place in hell.

Alongside getting to know Lucifer and his family, he also confronts some equally devilish human students (is that how the series implies, most teachers see their students ?!).

Both "Zero Hour" and "My Nephew Benz" present the school as a territory in which education and values no longer live.

The series testifies to the way teachers are perceived in Israel and the growing tendency to place teachers, students and parents on opposite sides of an educational barricade.

On their way, they provide us with a wake-up call.

I wish we woke up.
