Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced today that his country welcomes any country's efforts to resolve the crisis in Ukraine and push the Kiev authorities to fulfill their obligations under the Minsk agreements.
Peskov stressed that the main differences between Russia and Ukraine are related to Kiev's position on the implementation of the Minsk agreements to resolve the situation in the Donbass region.
An agreement was signed in the Belarusian capital, Minsk, on September 5, 2014, providing for a ceasefire in Donbass, but Kiev forces continue to violate this agreement and bombard residential areas in the Donetsk and Lugansk republics, which led to the killing and wounding of hundreds of civilians and the destruction of infrastructure.
On Turkey's invitation to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to discuss and resolve differences, Peskov said: "If the Turks are able to influence the Ukrainians and encourage them to fulfill the agreements reached previously and obligate them to do so, this situation can only be welcomed."
Peskov described the upcoming meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and American Anthony Blinken as "extremely important", pointing to the possibility of accelerating the process of coordinating guarantees after the meeting.
In previous statements to a number of its officials, Russia confirmed its rejection of the accusations and allegations made by Western countries and the Ukrainian authorities about its intention to wage war on Ukraine, considering it as a pretext for deploying more NATO military equipment near the Russian borders.
