Slovak opposition parties organized a demonstration in front of Parliament to protest against the government's intention to sign a military agreement with the United States.
The demonstrators expressed their rejection of this agreement, which allows US forces to be present in two Slovak air bases, and also prevents the prosecution of US military personnel if they commit criminal acts in Slovakia.
The head of the Socialist Party, Artur Bekmatov, stressed in a speech to the demonstrators that the adoption of this agreement at the present time is an irresponsible act and harmful to Slovakia, while the former Speaker of the Slovak Parliament, head of the Nationalist Party Andrei Danko, considered this agreement “a clear violation of the country’s sovereignty.”
