Due to the heavy snow that hit the Golan Heights, studies in the area will not take place today. • The Hermon site will remain closed, but is expected to open tomorrow - then the ski season will begin. Despite the expectation, the snow did not pile up in Jerusalem, but did fall in Kiryat Arba

Golan Heights residents experienced a white day yesterday, after snow covered the area for long hours.

Level schools have closed, and will not open today.

Due to the cold, residents of the area were required to leave a dripping faucet in order to prevent freezing of the piping and explosion of solar water heaters, after in recent days hundreds of residents suffered damage to the boilers.

Police blocked access to the snowy areas during the day, causing hundreds of hikers who wanted to reach the area to enjoy the snow to retrace their steps in disappointment.

The levels operated yesterday with the aim of opening the closed traffic arteries, but as darkness fell they stopped their work - and residents were required to exercise extra caution for fear of snow accumulating on the road.

On Tuesday, about 50 centimeters of snow fell on the lower level of the Hermon site, which caused it to close yesterday and today.

However, the expectation is that the amount of snow will allow the ski season to open on Friday - so the site will likely reopen.

"The current system provides us with a nice dose of snow, which thanks to the low temperatures will keep the snow for a long time, so there is no reason to hurry to encrypt," said Rafael Naveh, CEO of Hermon. Ski season.

My uncle Mored from Kibbutz El-Rom told Israel Today that many children took advantage of the weather to play and build dolls in the snow: "It's an experience for everyone. We have a snow team that deals with leveling paths and roads. We prepared well for this snow - and it seems the next week".

In the evening, the snow also reached Safed and Jerusalem, where they prepared in an emergency format for various scenarios by activating professional teams, who will deal with hazards, disperse salt to prevent slipping, evacuate various deputies if necessary and help applicants to municipal centers.

After an assessment of the situation that took place in the capital, the municipality decided to postpone the opening of school today to 09:00.

The shuttles and student lines will start an hour later than usual.

The heavy rains that accompany the current winter campaign have caused the level of the Sea of Galilee to rise by 1.5 centimeters a day.

The level is expected to continue to rise in the coming days, following the rain that is expected to continue to fall in the northern region.

The Kinneret lacks an additional 182 cm to reach the upper red line.

The snow does not stop falling

Meanwhile, the weather today is expected to be partly cloudy, and in the morning there is a chance of drizzle to light rain.

It will continue to be colder than usual for the season, and a severe cold is expected at night, especially in the mountains and inland.

Tomorrow will be fine and there will be a slight rise in temperatures, but these will still be slightly below average for the period.

At night it may have happened again in places that are prone to this.

According to Lior Sudri, a Meteo Tech forecaster, the weather is expected to be similar on Saturday as well, so it will be fine to partly cloudy, with no significant change in temperatures.

In the evening there may be local rain in the north and center of the country.

The snow is expected to fall on Mount Hermon also on Sunday and Monday.

The extreme cold and heavy snowfall in the northern region caused the all-time winter electricity record to be broken yesterday - standing at 14,735 megawatts.

The previous peak was in the winter of 2020, when it stood at 13,182 megawatts.

The IEC also said that in recent days, there have been disruptions in the supply of electricity in Arab localities in the north of the country, due to high loads on the electricity grid - most of which were caused by unknown connections that create unusual loads on the grid.
