Today, the final qualifiers for the Syrian Scientific Olympiad for the 2022 season were concluded, which was set up by the Excellence and Creativity Commission to select members of the national teams that will represent Syria in international and international Olympiad competitions.

The final qualifiers, in which 384 male and female students from different governorates participated, included two rounds of tests over two days, the duration of each round being four continuous hours for the specializations of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology at the Ebla Hotel in Damascus and five continuous hours for the specialization of informatics at the Faculty of Informatics Engineering at Damascus University.

Students from the first year of secondary school who qualified from the current season and old students who were members of the national Olympiad teams during previous years, as well as students who achieved first ranks in the Scientific Olympiad for adolescents, the school programming competition, and the programming marathon for children and adolescents in the 2021 season, competed in the tests. Question models were developed from the central scientific committees of the Olympiad Syrian scholar.

Malik Hammoud, the media advisor at the Excellence and Creativity Authority, explained to SANA that the scientific committees have started the correction process and calculate the final marks for the participants according to the outcome of the two tests, and the names of the winners will be announced in an official ceremony tomorrow, Thursday.

Hammoud explained that the coronation this year will be similar to the coronation in the international Olympics, where the first 10% in each scientific subject will win the gold medals, the next 20% will be silver medals, the 40% will be bronze medals, and the last 30% will be certificates of appreciation, indicating that the gold and silver medal winners will become members of the national team. For the scientific subject in which they excelled, after which they will be trained directly by the scientific committees of the International Competition Authority.

Hammoud pointed out that the "Science Challenge" competition, which was launched during these qualifiers and will be held in conjunction with the selection tests next March, aims to give a new opportunity to obtain membership in the national teams of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad for the holders of bronze medals and certificates of appreciation, provided that the participant chooses a specialty other than the one that participated In the final qualifiers for the 2022 Syrian Scientific Olympiad.

Sana met a number of students participating in the exams. Tala Marei from Tartous, majoring in chemistry, saw that the Olympiad was an important experience through which she was introduced to a new study style and method that would help her in the future.

From the province of Aleppo, Muhammad Ghazal Hamida, Abdul Qader Al-Hussein and George Bahar, specializing in chemistry for the Olympiad, considered an opportunity to enhance their scientific and social culture, and the atmosphere was interesting and useful, while Farah Qabbani, specializing in biology, indicated that the questions of the first round of exams were characterized by ease, while their difficulty increased in the second round today.

The student, Sidra Al-Hosni, majoring in physics, and the student, Youssef Ibrahim, majoring in mathematics, from Damascus, confirmed that the Olympiad is an opportunity to learn new scientific experiences and skills that will help them in their university studies.

The competitions for the new season of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad were launched on the twenty-third of last October, with the participation of about 6,000 male and female students from the first year of secondary school and the winning students in the Scientific Olympiad for adolescents from different governorates.
