These first images from the streets of Tonga during the tsunami generated by the great underwater volcano eruption show villagers trying to flee unexpected floods that swept away vehicles and ruined low-lying buildings.

The Government says that the waves reached up to 1.5 meters high and confirms the death of at least three people.
