Nur-Sultan-Sana
The last group of CSTO peacekeepers today left Kazakhstan on their way back to Russia.
And the Russian Defense Ministry announced in a statement today that four military transport planes took off from the Kazakh capital, Nur-Sultan, and the country's largest city, Almaty, heading to Russia, carrying the last units of the Russian peacekeeping forces and their command headed by Lieutenant-General Anatoly Serdyukov.
The ministry indicated that the Russian military aviation had previously withdrawn from Kazakhstan the soldiers of Armenia, Belarus and Tajikistan belonging to the peacekeeping forces, while the Kyrgyz soldiers left the country's territory themselves by land.
Upon his departure from Kazakhstan, Lieutenant-General Serdyukov announced the end of the peacekeeping operation, which was carried out by a decision of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in the territory of this country. He said: "Today the last units and leadership of the peacekeeping forces return home... I wish the Kazakh people peace and prosperity."
Serdyukov noted that the peacekeeping forces have achieved all the goals assigned to them, noting the level of coordination and professionalism between the military of the CSTO member states.
And the peacekeeping forces of the Collective Security Treaty arrived in Kazakhstan early this month at the request of its government against the backdrop of the wave of riots and looting that this country has experienced and to help it confront the armed groups that tried to foment unrest.
